Have you ever wondered who designed the Indofest topeng logo and who is responsible for all the banners, flags umbul-umbuls you see at each Indofest? The answer is Bapak Tok Basuki, a well-known and respected member of the Adelaide-Indonesian community who has played an integral role in Indofest’s success since the first festival in 2008.
Pak Tok is a talented and established artist. He studied art in Denpasar and Yogyakarta before completing both a Bachelor and Honours degree in Art and Design at the University of South Australia. His passion for painting is reflected in his work which is often a mixture of visual and spiritual connections between his birth country Indonesia and his adopted country Australia.
Wanting to focus more on his art, Pak Tok has taken a year off from Indofest this year. The result is his exhibition ‘Uncommon Visions’ which opens on Friday in Murray Bridge. It involves exploring uncommon perspectives, drawing inspiration from visiting sites such as the Adelaide Hills and the River Murray to create compositions that juxtapose up with down, night with day, object with reflection, seen with perception.
Still loyal to Indofest and our supporters, Pak Tok invites you to join him for the opening of his exhibition on this Sunday, 11 September at 2:30pm. To add to the special occasion, entertainment will be provided by Gameladies, an Indonesian orchestra group who are no strangers to Indofest.
Date: Sunday, 11 September 2016
Venue: Main gallery, Murray Bridge Regional Gallery, 27 Sixth St, Murray Bridge
Opening speaker: Melinda Rankin, Director, Murray Bridge Regional Gallery
If you are unable to make the opening, you can still pop in to the Murray Bridge Regional Gallery up until 9 October to take a look at Pak Tok’s exhibition. If you want to see more of the Gameladies, they will be playing at the Indofest Cultural & Culinary Festival on Sunday, 25th September from 11am – 4pm at the Cultural Precinct, North Tce (adjacent to the Art Gallery of SA).
And don’t worry, Indofest’s design team is still in good hands with Rudi Mulyana now at the helm! We’ll tell you more about him later!!
