Before undertaking a PhD in Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Education at the University of Adelaide, Yahya worked as a lecturer for the Department of OH&S at Hasanuddin University in his hometown of Makassar in South Sulawesi.

For his work on OH&S and migrant workers Yahya received two awards during his time in Adelaide. As well as earning a Dean’s Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence Award, Yahya was the first international student to win a Work Health and Safety Supplementary Scholarship from SafeWork SA in recognition of the benefits his research has on improving WHS standards among young migrant workers.

Yahya is now looking forward to packing his bags and heading home to Makassar. With Indonesia recorded as one of the countries with the highest rate of occupational accidents and injuries in the world, he is determined to start implementing the knowledge and expertise he gained during his time at the University of Adelaide to improve working conditions.

Congratulations Yahya and we wish you the very best for the future!
